📖 Book perfect naps DONT EXSIST! Anyone who kn 📖 Book perfect naps DONT EXSIST!

Anyone who knows me well will know that I love a good book! In fact I read 5/6 a month! However, when it comes to sleep books I am not such a fan. They often present unrealistic expectations as to little ones sleep, leaving parents frustrated and feeling like they have failed.

The key to naps is to find a routine that feels natural and works for your baby. If they need 5 30min naps a day THATS OK. If they have a longer morning nap and a shorter lunchtime nap THATS OK TOO.

Parenting is hard enough, without trying to follow a book, that was written by an author, who has never met you or your baby.

🛏 Bedding for babies 0-6 months. Babies under 🛏 Bedding for babies 0-6 months.

Babies under 6 months should be sleeping on a firm, flat, waterproof mattress with either a sleeping bag, swaddle or blanket. Blankets shouldn’t be too thick/bulky and not doubled over to avoid overheating.

If using a sleeping bag it’s important that the sleeping bag fits well around the shoulders so that your baby’s head does not slip down into the bag.

Babies should always be placed with their feet at the bottom of the cot and any blankets tucked in neatly down the sides of the mattress.

Duvets are not recommended for infants under 12 months of age.

When your toddler is ready for a duvet, here’s all the guidance you need to choose something safe.

Duvets for toddlers should be lightweight, washable, natural and ideally anti-allergy.

Key points about toddler duvets:

It’s very important that you use the right size duvet. So, if your child is in a cot bed, ensure to get a cot bed duvet rather than a standard single bed size as this will be too big for their space and can lead to overheating.

In terms of tog, for most children a 4.5 tog duvet is enough, even in the winter months. Toddlers move around a lot during the night and they can get much hotter than we can. They also aren’t as adapt as regulating their own body temperature as us. If they have a particularly cold bedroom then they can go up to around a 7tog in the winter.

If you choose to use a pillow, ensure this is a specific toddler pillow which should be thin and no thicker ideally than around 1cm.
